Stopping Domestic Violence & Senior Abuse

Catherine Cortez Masto has been working to stop domestic violence and senior abuse and provide assistance to the victims of these terrible crimes:

The Domestic Violence Ombusdman, in her office, works to coordinate system-wide improvements in domestic violence prevention and intervention that will enhance victim safety and increase officer accountability. The Ombudsman participates in various projects and committees in an effort to encourage greater consistency among law enforcement, prosecution, judiciary, and victim services particularly in the areas of service provision, protocol development, domestic violence training, and data gathering
The Nevada Council for the Prevention of Domestic Violence is chaired by Attorney General Masto. It is made up of members from all over the state representing law enforcement, the judiciary, prosecution, victim services, health care, education and domestic violence survivors. It's purpose is to increase awareness of the existence and unacceptability of domestic violence; make recommendations for necessary legislation; and provide financial support to programs for the prevention of domestic violence in Nevada.
The Committee on Domestic Violence, whose members are appointed by the Attorney General, certifies, reviews and monitors batterers treatment programs and adopts regulations for the evaluation, certification and monitoring of programs for the treatment of those persons who commit domestic violence.
The Attorney General's Senior Protection Unit combines several different divisions to educate and protect seniors and to prosecute those who take advantage of Nevada retirees. The Unit includes the Senior Medicare Patrol; The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit; the Bureau of Consumer Protection; the Identity Theft PASSPORT Program; and the Attorney General's Conference on Senior Protection.

Cortez Masto will continue to fight for legislation that protects the victims of domestic violence and senior abuse, and seeks to increase penalties on those who prey on the most vulnerable members of our community.
