Fighting Nevada's Growing Drug Problem

Fighting DrugsOne of Catherine Cortez Masto's main priorities when first taking office was to fight Nevada's growing drug problem, especially methamphetamine use. In 2007, she fought for a new law making it tougher for people to obtain the materials used to manufacture meth. The bill also raised penalties for those who make and distribute not only meth, but other illegal controlled substances.

She is chair of Nevada's Methamphetamine Working Group, which issued a comprehensive report on how best to fight Nevada's war against methamphetamine use. That report led to legislation and is used by Nevada's law enforcement agencies to better plan their strategies in combating meth and distribution in their jurisdictions.

Cortez Masto will continue to be a leader on this and other issues in the war against drugs, including prescription drug abuse.
